Guernsey Indoor Tennis Centre - 'Draw for partners competition' 5th August 2000
11 pairs of players contested the tennis competition organised to say farewell to one of our members, Roy Marsden, who will be retiring to the mainland, having worked in Guernsey for the Board of Health since 1984. Roy has been a member of Delancey for some 5 years now and is a Committee member as well as a very active member of the Club.
On a warm evening at the Centre there were some exciting matches played, with the eventual outcome of the competition being that the member who the evening was all about, Roy, was the eventual winner with his partner Elaine Grice.
The runners-up were Franco Cranchi/ Laura Milligan, with the pairings of Pepi Petrali/Julie Hutchins and Darren Wadley/Anne Craddock receiving the traditional 'wooden spoons' as their reward for bringing up the tail end.
The evening was rounded off with a selection of pizzas, desserts and drinks.
Karen Bougourd, the Club Secretary, presented Roy with a book token and a farewell card from the members of Delancey Tennis Club and thanked him for his contribution to the Club, both on and off the tennis courts.
Roy thanked the Club for their gift and stated how much he had enjoyed his time at the Club, albeit with such a mixed bunch of characters! Roy wished the Club well for the future and hoped that sometime in the near future he would be able to arrange a game with his new Club, either in Guernsey or in North Yorkshire where he is going to live.
The Club would like to acknowledge the contribution the Club Captain, Bernie Halverson-Carr, played in organising this social event for our club members.
